Help Us Collect Seeds to Restore Native Prairie!
350.org 10/10/10 Global Work Party
Sunday October 10, 2010 9:30am-noon
Meet at W7480 Prairie Lane Lake Mills, WI 53551
Join us at Faville Grove Sanctuary to help collect native Wisconsin prairie seeds and learn about large scale ecological restoration! Volunteers will work in diverse and colorful restored prairies to gather seeds to be used to restore grasslands for wildlife habitat and carbon sequestration. Prairies are huge 'carbon sinks' that help mitigate global warming, and your efforts along with those of other volunteers will help fight climate change! Volunteers will learn to identify Wisconsin prairie plants and gain a better understanding for how to restore a prairie. In the case of rain, volunteers will work cleaning seeds in the seed barn to separate out stems and chaff using a variety of screens. No prior experience is needed, only a willingness to learn, have fun, and help the environment!
