Madison Audubon Sanctuaries

Volunteers Needed!
Seed collecting helps our prairies grow!

Seed collecting for our upcoming prairie restorations continues in October. Come on out and enjoy the sunshine, fresh air and prairie banter.

At Goose Pond Sanctuary, volunteers will collect seed every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Meet at the new residence (W7503 Kampen Road, Arlington) by the farm buildings northwest of the west pond. Contact Mark or Sue at (608) 635-4160 or goosep@chorus.net for more information.

At Faville Grove Sanctuary, seed collecting and/or cleaning parties are scheduled every Saturday, 9:30 to noon and 1:30 to 4:00, as well as Wednesday mornings beginning at 9:30. From Madison take I-94 east to the Lake Mills/Waterloo exit (Highway 89), go north approximately 1.75 miles and turn right onto County G. After approximately 1.5 miles, turn right onto Prairie Lane and meet at the sanctuary sign. We also are planning to do some brush clearing and controlled burning this fall (the latter always on short notice), as well as a large planting party, so let us know if you are interested in hearing about these events. We also have begun distributing a volunteer newsletter by email with more timely news than we can provide in the CAWS . To sign up, or if you have questions, please contact sanctuary ecologist Lars Higdon at larshigdon@ hotmail.com or (608) 220-9563.
